Helm Construction, a registered member of the NHRBC and Master Builder Association, was founded in 1992 on the principles of quality workmanship and client satisfaction. Over the past 20 years, Helm has acquired its reputation as an expert residential construction company, whose attention to detail and focus on client and architectural vision, has ensured that more than 70% of our business is sourced through referrals by architects, developers and former clients.

Although Helm specializes in the construction of middle and up-market housing, it has also been involved in complicated residential renovations, cluster developments, townhouses, up market apartments, shopping centre’s and commercial buildings.

Energy Efficient Building
The general awareness of greener buildings has been heightened in South Africa by significant increases in the cost of electricity and water tariffs. Currently the SA market is flooded with products and companies offering “green” alternatives, not all of the products and systems being offered are practical, reliable and effective. For this reason Helm Construction has been thorough in selecting products and systems that meet the criteria before offering them on to its clients.

• Our homes are offered with the solar heated geyser or heat pump options


• Our homes will have effective roof insulation (standard)


• Our homes are offered with insulation layer below floor level


• Our homes are offered with solar generated power and power management system allowing the homes to be 25 or 50 or 75 or 100% off the electrical grid and have approx. 48 hrs of stored power for the dreaded power outages


• Low energy lights will be promoted to all clients


• Split flush option on toilets will be promoted


• Water efficient taps and shower heads will be promoted


• Our homes are offered with a water recycling plant which will allow grey recycled water to be used to flush toilets and garden use


• Our homes are offered with a 2000l underground storage tank for rain water harvesting. This water will then be available for garden irrigation


• Gas cooking hobs will be recommended and promoted


• Our homes are offered with an alternative glazing package using 7.38 low E safety glass, this offers both better thermal properties, better UV protection as well as improved security benefits


• Our homes are offered using the Imison cavity walling system which offers many benefits like better thermal properties, durability, sound proofing, minimal damp and moisture retention.
